Just got the boat out of the water and what do I find... about 1/3 of the
skeg gone. Best to have it welded and repaired. Or are these Skegguards
worth the money?

If it was me, and it was only 1/3 gone, and there was no damage (leakage,
vibration) I'd leave well enough alone. Maybe it's time to look instead into
a more forgiving depth gauge Smile

Randy,
There are three reasons why you need a skeg. #1 It protects the propeller
because it hits the bottom first. #2 It helps to prevent "chine walking" in
high perf boats. #3 it acts as a rudder.
Get it welded or risk poor directional response from the helm.
